And so shall it come to pass that the Faceless Ones will walk among you. You will know them not by name, nor by number, but they shall walk among you all the same. They are the Harbingers, and they will usher in a new era for the world of Eberron. Three golden arrows point the way to the fall of kings and kingdoms, and a new moon will rise in the night sky.

These words are only a small piece of the Draconic Prophecy, but many scholars, from the dragons of Argonessen to the researchers of the various academies across Khorvaire, believe that the time of the Faceless Ones has come.

The Last War had raged for the past century, as the Five Nations of the kingdom of Galifar warred for the throne. A shaky armistice was reached in 994 YK (Year of the King), when the catastrophe now called the Mourning wiped the nation of Cyre from existence. In 996 YK, the Treaty of Thronehold was signed, officially ending the war. The treaty recognized 12 nations on Khorvaire: Aundair, Breland, Darguun, the Eldeen Reaches, Karrnath, the Lhazaar Principalities, the Mror Holds, Q’barra, the Talenta Plains, Thrane, Valenar and Zilargo. Three dangerous territories that are not recognized as sovereign nations are the Demon Wasts, Droaam and the Shadow Marches. Cyre, now called the Mournland, remains abandoned, a gray wasteland which few enter and from which fewer still return.

Powerful magics, controlled by the Dragonmarked Houses and powered by mysterious dragonshards, have allowed for countless wonders, such as everbright lanterns, the lightning rail, and the new elemental airships that travel from city to city through the skies.

It is now Therendor 8, 998 YK. You have come to the city of Sharn, in Breland, seeking to set the horrors of the Last War behind you and make your mark on the world of Eberron. What adventure await? Who will ally with you and who will become your mortal enemy? Will the Faceless Ones be revealed? Only time will tell…
