Bio:

BUILD CONCEPT

Elf wizard (arcanist/tome/illusionist build) trained in arcana, history, insight, and religion. Largely offensive powers and feats, with a few escapes if necessary. Combination of bursts, blasts, and single target spells that do minimal damage but push or impose conditions like daze, immobilize, prone, slow, combat advantage, attack an ally, etc. Pet Blink Dog allows allies to teleport within his aura 1 and grants allies combat advantage against enemies in his aura. Spectral familiar can scout through walls (has phasing).

APPEARANCE AND MANNERISMS

Appears to have suffered from a wasting disease that, while no longer active, has marked his face, neck and hands with crevices and blotches and left him completely bald. Other than his slender build and ears (which are normally covered by his robe), it is not entirely clear that Chiridion is an Elf. He keeps the hood of his robe somewhat low over his face because of his deformity, and his personality is reserved and somewhat reclusive. He is, however, open about his past and his goals when among those he trusts. He is in his early 30s, but appears much older, even for an Elf.

Chiridion maintains a fairly simple and neat appearance, and has no tattoos. He always carries a magic tome in one hand and his backpack contains several more old texts relating to Aerenal history and lore.

He travels with two companions, a black Blink Dog and a small spectral familiar that appears to be a tiny Elf. Sometimes the spectre disappears into an amulet that bears the symbol of his House. Chiridion often seeks advice from, and reminisces with, his familiar, though only Chiridion can understand what the familiar says.

BACKSTORY

Chiridion hails from Aerenal, though he has spent the last six years traveling in Khorvaire, and has recently emerged from The Mournland. He comes from an Elven house known for its strong bond with the Feywild and facility with wild fey creatures.

The Dead Twin

He originally left Aerenal to find the body of his twin brother, Chirantheum, who was killed and interred in Eston, a large city in Cyre, before Cyre was mysteriously destroyed and became the Mournland. Chirantheum was an ambassador from Aerenal (who also fought for Cyre), and his exploits during the war were sufficient to raise him earn him a noble designation in Aerenal — membership in Aerenal noble houses is not hereditary, but is earned — and as a noble, Chirantheum had the right to be raised as a Deathless if Chiridion could simply return with the body.

The Mournland

Although warned against it, Chiridion entered the Mournland to find his brother’s body for resurrection or return to Aerenal to be raised as a Deathless. He heard that the bodies of those killed in the destruction of Cyre did not decompose, so he was hopeful that Chirantheum’s body was sufficiently preserved to perform the rites. When he accessed Chirantheum’s tomb, however, he discovered the body was never properly preserved at the outset and was now too decomposed to support either course, and all that remained was dust and the matching half of an heirloom amulet. Griefstruck but undeterred, Chiridion hoped there may be older magic that could bring his brother back.
Although there are few inhabitants anywhere in the Mournland, Chiridion found a loose association of arcane scholars holed up in Eston’s great library who were researching how Cyre was destroyed and what magic kept the bodies of the slain from decomposing. They were convinced that these events were related to the Draconic Prophesy, which portends the arrival of the Faceless Ones.

Chiridion offered to assist them if they could help him find another way to recall Chirantheum without the body. Chiridion assisted these scholars for several years in their research, but in return, the mages could teach Chiridion nothing more than illusion magic and very limited necromancy.

The Odd Warforged

Chiridion began experimenting with novel approaches, and researched bringing his brother back through another body after discovering a dormant Warforged encased in a glass-topped, coffin-like case in a tower near the library. Unfortunately, he could not decipher the runes that locked the coffin, and while he researched them in the library, a group of adventurers looting the city stumbled upon the coffin, opened it, woke the Warforged, and made off with it. Nonetheless, Chiridion remained intrigued by the Warforged, especially the runes on his coffin and the Dragonmark of Passage on his forehead, which seemed inconsistent with Chiridion’s limited understanding of the creation and ownership of Warforged.

Banishment

As he became even more frustrated over the years, Chiridion researched older, dangerous forms of necromancy and resurrection magic and tried to use their rites, but his lack of skill in the school led to the withering of his strikingly beautiful face. When the other mages learned of his folly, they banished him from the library, although in their pity they helped him summon Chirantheum as a spectral familiar — an unsatisfying temporary resolution. Chiridion had several unearthed several interesting clues regarding the nature of the mysterious Warforged before he was banished, and he hoped to find the construct someday and study it further.

Most who learn that Chiridion emerged from the Mournland assume that his ruined visage is a byproduct of visiting that cursed land, and he usually does nothing to disabuse them. His failed experiments in necromancy have caused him to reject that school, and his mistreatment as a result of his looks has caused him to further embrace illusion magic to change minds in and out of combat.

Jereth of Sharn

Chiridion went to Sharn to visit the library at Morgrave University library to research other approaches to returning his brother. His House, like all of Aerenal, is alarmed by the Draconic Prophesy and has ordered Chiridion to learn all he can about it and represent Aerenal’s interests in its determining its course. While attempting to convince library staff to allow him access to certain off-limits collections in the University library, he met Jereth of Sharn, who promised access to forbidden areas in exchange for services. Chiridion accepted, and Jereth assigned him to bring a message to a party of hired swords heading towards Greenheart and to assist them as necessary. Jereth’s only advice was “watch out for short Ladies.”
