== End ==
Maurianna is a tall, scintillating figure with green eyes (that turn red when she drinks blood) and white hair clad in revealing scarlet plate armor and cloak with matching heeled boots. She enjoys tormenting and taunting foes in battle.
Maurianna is very charismatic, and although she tends to be reserved, she won’t hesitate to take charge of a situation. She is very ruthless and bloodthirsty in battle, but also has a compassionate side buried deep down inside her rough exterior.
Maurianna currently goes by the name of Lady Joranna ir’Roole, a 20-year old Brelish noblewoman studying at Morgrave University. She also usually hides her vampiric and necromantic abilities, unless she develops a bloodlust due to thirst.
Maurianna Karlach was born in 955 YK in an estate to the northeast of Rekkenmark to a noble family. She was the youngest of five children, and her three brothers were sent off to fight in the Last War along with their father. All were slain during the Last War, and Maurianna’s mother forbade her to pursue a military career; and her sister was married off to a local warlord to maintain the family’s wealth and influence. Maurianna was young and headstrong, and defied her mother’s wishes by leaving the estate to study at the Rekkenmark Academy (where she had been accepted).
Maurianna excelled in her studies at the Academy, and graduated early and was sent into battle. While studying at the academy, she also learned paladin abilities from the Sovereign Host, having worshipped the faith since she was baptized as a baby. Due to her academic success as well as martial and divine prowess, she was inducted into the Karrnathi cavalry. She went on several campaigns starting at age 20, until she was 26 when her unit was annhilated in a ferocious battle against Brelish and Thrane soldiers. They had been sent on a virtual suicide mission to help protect the wavering infantry on the right flank from a combined assault, and charged into a fuisilade of spells, arrows, bolts, and spears. Battered by relentless warforged, professional Brelish archers, and Thrane heavy infantry- Maurianna’s unit fought to a last man- and Maurianna was the last one standing before she was cut down by a volley of arrows.As she lay dying, Maurianna prayed to the Host for deliverance- but she was instead forsaken, and watched the rest of her comrades be slaughtered or die around her. Then, a savior arrived- a handsome man clad in red robes bearing symbols of the Blood of Vol. He gave her the offer that he would save her life, but she would be eternally bound to him in servitude. Desperate, Maurianna accepted the offer. The man’s eyes then turned red and his teeth elonaged into fangs, and he sunk them into her neck- draining her and then carrying out the ritual to transform her into a Vrylocka.
Bound in servitude to Drago Zecklin, Maurianna stayed in the Karrnati army for the rest of the war- while secretly carrying out missions for the Emerald Claw. She relished her new powers and abilities, and she in fact was approached by Karrnathi intelligence after the war to become an agent. She has continued to serve as a double-agent for the Emerald Claw, and has been just sent to Sharn to carry out a mission.
Going under the pseudonym Lady Joranna ir’Roole, a student at Morgrave University- as she looks 20 (but is actually 43). When asked about her abilities, she mentions that she picked up the skills from family members and peers at Morgrave University. She doesn’t outwardly act like a traditional paladin, but more like an adventurer who has some divine and arcane-appearing abilities (the life-draining thing seems more warlockish). She acts like an idealistic university student, but is actually quite cynical and ruthless (maybe deep down inside something remains of the idealistic knight-paladin, but it’s buried). Her mentor, Drago Zecklin, is currently in Atur- but may be headed to Sharn to keep an eye on her.
Lastly, in terms of faith she typically doesn’t openly display her holy symbol (especially if she’s in Karrnath or Thrane where the Blood of Vol is persecuted) or discuss the tenements of her faith. Maurianna, however, is a strong believer in the tenements of faith that only through the understanding of blood and one’s inner talents can divinity and salvation be achieved. She is contemptuous of most other faiths (she has some respect for the followers of the Dark Six and the Path of Light, misguided as they may be), and has nothing but contempt especially for the zealots of the Silver Flame. Maurianna does practice her faith in secret, away from the prying eyes of her party members. She is also secretly an ardent Karrnathi patriot, and (perhaps delusionally) believes there is nothing wrong with serving both the Blood of Vol and King Kaius, and that the King must learn that the only for his nation to regain its former power and glory is to wholeheartedly embrace the faith that his precedessors (and much of his military and populace) hold dear. Maurianna has concealed these views so for, pretending to be simply an apolitical Morgrave University student who has some interest in divine philosophy but doesn’t follow any particular faith. Oh litle do they know…
